Google Reviews for Shopify
How to add Google reviews to your Shopify store
Build the widget, copy the code, and drop it into your theme. Shopify gives you two places to put it: a Custom Liquid block in the theme editor, which is what most people want, or directly in the theme code if you need it somewhere the editor cannot reach.
Create the widget and connect your Google place — the Shopify install asks for your Google Place ID rather than your business name
Copy the embed code
In Shopify admin open Online Store → Themes → Customize
Add a section or block, choose Custom Liquid, and paste the code
Save. The reviews appear in the preview straight away
Google Customer Reviews is not the same thing
Two different Google products share almost the same name, and Shopify merchants hit both. Google reviews are the reviews people leave on your Google Business Profile — the ones with stars next to your business in Maps and Search. Google Customer Reviews is a Merchant Center programme that surveys buyers after an order and feeds seller ratings into Google Shopping ads.
This widget shows the first kind. The second cannot be pulled in automatically; if you need those reviews on your storefront you would have to add them by hand. The full explanation is here, including which one you probably want.
Where to put reviews in a Shopify theme
On the homepage, a Carousel or Grid below the hero does the ordinary job of reassuring a first-time visitor. On product pages the useful placement is near the buy button rather than at the bottom, where almost nobody scrolls.
On the cart and checkout-adjacent pages a small floating badge works better than a full section — it reassures without taking attention away from the purchase. Badges can be restricted to specific pages, so you can show the big widget on the homepage and the badge everywhere else from the same account.
When it does not show up on Shopify
Nearly always one of three things. The code went into a block that is not rendered on the page you are looking at, the theme has caching that has not caught up, or a Custom Liquid block was saved but the section was never added to the template.
If the widget appears in the theme preview but not on the live store, the change was previewed rather than published. The Shopify troubleshooting page goes through it in order.
What it costs on Shopify
The free plan works on a live Shopify store — it is a plan, not a trial. Paid plans are priced by views and widget count and view allowance rather than per order or per review, so a busy month does not produce a surprise bill.
