Google Analytics tracking

Google Analytics events for the widget: who saw it, who read a review, who clicked through to leave one.

What it does

The widget fires Google Analytics events so you can see whether it is doing anything. Eight event types in the All-in-One app, five in the Google app, each with an editable name and custom parameters.

How it works

Widget Viewed fires when at least 30% of the widget has been in view for a second. Review Viewed when someone actually reads one. Review Popup Opened, Review Source Opened and Write Review Redirected cover the interactions that matter, each carrying parameters like rating, reviewer name and view context.

Event names are editable, so they can be made to match whatever naming convention your analytics already uses.

The thing people get wrong

Almost nobody in this category talks about measurement, which means almost nobody using a review widget knows whether it earns its place. It is also the question that decides renewals, so it is worth answering before somebody asks.

What it does not do

It reports on the widget, not on your conversion rate. Connecting the two means setting up a goal in Analytics and comparing, which is work worth doing once.
