Definition

Review syndication is the distribution of reviews from where they were collected to other places they can appear — a retailer’s site, a comparison engine, Google Shopping.

It is common in ecommerce, where a manufacturer’s reviews appear on the sites of the retailers selling the product.

What it looks like in practice

A customer reviews a coffee machine on the manufacturer’s site, and the same review appears on three retailer product pages carrying that model.

Why it matters

It solves the empty-product-page problem for retailers and extends reach for brands. It also produces duplicate review content across sites, which is worth knowing before you assume a review count is unique to the page you are looking at.
