Why your Google reviews aren’t showing

Google reviews disappear for four main reasons: the review broke a policy and was removed, an automated filter caught it, the business profile was merged or changed, or the review never successfully posted in the first place.

Google does not notify anyone when it removes a review, which is why most businesses discover it by noticing the count dropped.

If the count dropped and you know roughly when, compare against anything unusual — a burst of reviews, a change of address, a merged duplicate listing. If a specific customer says they left a review you never saw, it may never have posted: a Google account issue, or removal within minutes as suspected spam.

If several went at once and they arrived close together, an automated filter is the most likely explanation.

Assuming a competitor reported them. Mass reporting is far rarer than people think, and Google removes on policy grounds rather than on complaint volume. The overwhelming majority of disappearances are automated.

The second is assuming it is permanent. Filtered reviews sometimes return, particularly after a profile issue is resolved.

Duplicate listings are the quiet one. Reviews split across two profiles, then one is merged or removed, and the count changes without anyone touching a review. Address and category changes can also trigger a re-verification that affects display.

Check for duplicate listings and merge them properly. Avoid sudden bursts of reviews. If a batch went and you can show they were from genuine customers with normal accounts, Business Profile support is the escalation path — slow, but a real one.
