Review velocity
Definition
Review velocity is the rate at which a business receives new reviews — how many arrive per week or month, rather than how many exist in total.
A steady trickle signals an operating business; a burst followed by silence signals a campaign that stopped.
What it looks like in practice
Two businesses both have 120 Google reviews. One collected them over three years at a steady three a month. The other collected 100 in a fortnight two years ago. The first looks alive; the second looks like it tried once.
Why it matters
It is the reason a one-off push to collect reviews underperforms. Recency is what a reader checks — the first thing most people do on a review profile is sort by newest — and a steady rate is what produces recency permanently rather than once.
